Learn more about the program.
We have launched a Beta Reader Program to connect historical fiction authors seeking feedback on their works-in-progress with passionate readers who love discovering fresh stories before they reach publication.
The Beta Reader Program is open to all authors of historical fiction (unpublished, traditionally published, self-published, independently published, or hybrid published) across the globe. It requires that the authors submit cleaned-up (not rough drafts) original works of historical fiction in the English language. It also requires that the beta readers adhere to strict confidentiality, maintaining the author’s privacy about any works the beta reader accesses and not violating the author’s copyright.
The program offers open enrollment. Authors and beta readers may sign up at any time throughout the year. We are committed to matching as many authors and beta readers as possible, but there may also be challenges in finding the best matches. If withdrawing an application as an author or beta reader is necessary, please contact us.
The HNS-NYC Steering Committee provides:
-
Initial matching services between authors and beta readers
-
Guidelines for effective beta reading relationships
-
Best practices for both giving and receiving feedback
-
Ongoing program evaluation and improvement. If issues arise or authors and beta readers wish to collaborate on another writing project, let us know!
Ready to participate? Whether you're an author seeking fresh perspectives or a reader eager to discover new historical fiction, our Beta Reader Program offers an exciting opportunity to engage more deeply with the genre we all love.
